Could Seawater solve the Freshwater Crisis?
The only issue posed in the article: Could Seawater solve the Freshwater Crisis?, is that the desalination plants will not produce enough fresh, purified water. The desalination plants are estimated to soar to 10 billion gallons a year in 2016, which would be twice the amount produced in 2008. However, the global demand for water will have at least doubled, and the numbers mean that the desalination plants will not be able to produce enough water for everybody. Instead of more people getting clean water, pure population numbers destine us to leave more people than ever before without water. A solution may be that people will be forced to boil seawater themselves, or pay higher taxes in order to produce more plants. The plants will also have to produce water for agriculture and will take up lots of land. Seawater seems like it may be the only hope for the future of our world. All in all, people will have to have a miracle or a scientific breakthrough in order to solve this horrible freshwater crisis.
